Industrialization and Suburban Development
(ca. 1880–1900)

The history of the Leipzig-Möckern train station—or rather, train stop—is closely linked to the industrial development of northwest Leipzig. What makes this particularly fascinating is that various eras of transportation have overlapped in Möckern: the classic railroad, freight transport, the suburban railway, the early S-Bahn, and the important streetcar station. Over more than 130 years, this has given rise to an exceptionally dense ensemble of transportation and industry.
